DJ Markie Gee was the consummate music connoisseur, having been a pioneer in the local punk, hip hop, alternative and house music scenes. His eclectic background includes stints booking bands at Trinity College; serving as Music/Program Director at WRTC, WWUH and WESU; running BeatsPerMinute Record Pool, directing Public Image Booking Agency, and organizing New England’s biggest rave SAPPHIRE. As a dj he helped to break acts as varied as Run-DMC, RuPaul, Tackhead, Nitzer Ebb, UltraNate, Kevin Saunderson and Living Colour. He is internationally recognized as a champion of house, techno and electronica.

Under the tutelage of Riot’s Joe Giucastro, Gee became an influential dj and writer for Dance Music Report, MixMag, Thousand Words, Dance Music Authority and Alternative Press covering the house and techno genres. Gee was a fixture in the NYC and Boston club scenes in the 80’s and 90’s playing at venues like Limelight, Sound Factory Bar, M-80, AXIS, Hub Club, Element, The Bank, etc. Booking upfront acts long before they become popular is Gee’s signature, having worked with U2, That Kid Chris, Danny Tenaglia, Erick Morillo, UltraNate, Todd Terry, Doc Martin, Harry Romero, Stefano Noferini, Lenny Fontana, Victor Simonelli, Sonny Fodera, etc. Later Gee also learned about the touring dj business as primary booking agent for Robbie Rivera and US tour manager for Darude.

Gee is indebted to local legends Dave Dresden, Lucien Grillo, Dave Shaw and John Trienis. Fusing disco, rock, funk, jazz, punk and hip hop, Gee’s held longstanding residencies at The Comet, Loft Bar and No Name Bar (as well as opened Velvet) in CT as well as others in Boston, Miami and NYC. As a travelling dj Markie has headlined parties in Miami, London, Luxembourg, Montreal, Detroit, Providence, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, New Haven, Portland, Raleigh, etc, Djing the 2001 Super Bowl Gospel Celebration in San Diego was a spiritual highlight.

While most comfortable playing extended sets where he can take the crowd on a journey, Gee relishes opportunities to warm up for bigger djs and gain new fans. Gee maintains his global following on Casafonda Radio London “Notes From The Underground” every Tuesday and Friday, as well as on DanceGruv.Net “Deep In The Gee Spot” every Saturday. Currently Markie is performing live dates with The Doug Wimbish Allstars featuring Doug Wimbish (Sugar Hill Gang/Tackhead), Corey Glover (Living Colour) and Daru Jones (Jack White) and has headlined 2 fundraisers for Bernie Sanders in NYC. His upcoming monthly residency in Brooklyn at The Rookery pairs him with his mentor Kris Bones (Genaside II/The Prodigy).
